Visas
Passport and Visa are required for entry into Ukraine. Before entering Ukraine, you must obtain a visa at the Embassy or Ukrainian Consulate abroad (Consular Office of the Embassy of Ukraine). You should take care of these issues in advance, as it is impossible to get a visa at the airport or Customs Office. Applicants must allow at least 15 business days for their visa applications to be processed. Visas may be extended in Ukraine.
Consular payments amount depends on the terms of documents presentation and type of visa (a tourist, guest one, etc.)
If you would like to visit Russia (Moscow) at the same journey you will need a Russian visa as well. Contact the Russian Consulate in your country for more info... If you are in the territory of Ukraine, additional documents for entry to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea are not required.
The type of visa required depends on the purpose of the applicants' entry into the Ukraine. Please contact the Ukrainian Consulate in your country of residence for further information.
Depending on validity, there exist the following types of visas: short-term visas (issued for up to 6 months) and long-term visas (6-12 months); by frequency of use the visas are divided into single, multiple and collective.
No visas are required for citizens of EU countries, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, USA, Canada, Japan, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Mongolia, Serbia, Lithuania and Montenegro, and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (except Turkmenistan).
In case of need, an employee of a Ukrainian diplomatic mission or a consular office may request additional documents which would in a better way specify the aim of the foreigner's/non-resident's trip or invite a certain person for an additional interview.
Transit of foreigners through the territory of Ukraine is allowed, in case if the foreigner has a transit Ukrainian visa, a destination country visa and tickets or other documents proving that the intended trip is really a transit.
At the time of temporary stay in Ukraine, foreigner has no right to change the status of residence for any other one and to apply for permission for permanent residence in Ukraine.
Some customs rules
Information concerning goods and currencies passing though Ukrainian customs must be inserted in your declaration form. You must indicate what you are importing and why, along with other information at the request of the Customs officers.
One person can import into Ukraine: • Vodka – one litre; • Wine – two litres; • Tobacco products – 200 cigarettes (or 200 grams of these products); • Beer – two litres; • Food products – not exceeding 50 Euro (or equivalent) value.
You will need a special permission in order to bring in or export: • Weapons of military type, specialized self-defense systems charged with the substance of tear action, etc. – the permit is ascertained from the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Ukraine; • Animals – veterinary certificate; • Medicine (not more then 5 packs of one type or the amount required by a patient for one course of meditation according to a doctor’s prescription) – the permit is ascertained from the Ministry of Health Care in the Ukraine.
If, during your stay in Ukraine, you purchase: • Original works of art, graphic or sculpture; • Works of applied art and traditional folk art; • Goods of museum significance; • Old books etc, having artistic, historical, ethnographical, and scientific value – State Service permit for control over the transference of goods of cultural value through the Ukrainian State Border.
Tax back It is possible to export goods tax free, providing their value in Ukrainian currency does not exceed the equivalent of 100,000 Euro, according to the exchange rate set by the National Bank of Ukraine on the date of filling the customs declaration.
