The Art Museum
The Art Museum of Odessa houses one of the largest collections of Russian and Ukrainian masterpieces in the Ukraine . The collections of the Museum boast magnificent and artistically unique works of great masters reflecting the development of national art from icon painting of the 15th - 18th centuries to contemporary painting, graphic art, sculpture and decorative art.
The Museum was inaugurated in 1899 on the initiative of the Odessa Society of Fine Arts. The collection of the Odessa Drawing School and more than 70 works of art from the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts established the foundation of the new museum. The building of the Museum is one of the most notable architectural monuments of the Classicism which was popular during the early 19th century.
The exposition occupies twenty-six halls and it is arranged in the historical and chronological succession following a monographic principal of each artist presentation.
Odessa State Literary Museum
Odessa State Literary Museum was founded in 1977. It occupies the house built by the architect Ludwig Otton in the 19th century.
The collections located in 24 halls of the museum utilize real historical objects to trace the history of literary Odessa . More than three hundred writers are represented to the public. Rare editions, manuscripts, photos, albums, related objects are on view here.The exhibition is divided into six different collections.
One of the halls illustrates friendly connections between the writers of different nations. Some expositions here were made in cooperation with the National Museum of Bulgarian Literature.
